WiseStats and its History
A little-publicized fact about Bet Smart™ is that WiseStats was actually the catalyst for starting the company.
Launched in June 2010 with a beta tag next to the logo that still adorns it today, WiseStats was a minimally viable product (“MVP” in startup-speak) we created to get the ball rolling.
WiseStats was intended to become the Bloomberg for Sport Betting, a single destination web app that offered punters rich analytical tools that helped them manage their betting activity. There were approximately 3 months’ worth of development time put into WiseStats with a team of 1.5 developers, plus a contracted designer.
In its initial scope, WiseStats became the app to:
- track consolidated personal betting activity across multiple sportsbooks, including bankroll management and profit/loss reporting
- access real-time odds at 25 of the most popular sportsbooks, with custom odds move alerts, odds history graphs, and best odds
- compare team head-to-head stats
Behind the scenes, WiseStats pipes in event and matchup data dynamically. One of the things we did in the first version of WiseStats was develop basic automated resulting and corresponding bankroll management. Taken further, WiseStats contains many of the back-end components of a sportsbook, making it easily adaptable to social sports betting environments.
WiseStats remains free to use, and many people actively use it. We haven’t iterated on it for almost 2 years now, but we still support the product and its users. We are fond of its humble beginnings, and have a few ideas about how WiseStats could morph into the next big thing in sports betting. For now though, WiseStats remains one of the finer things to come out of our lab!
